Mayor Ron Nirenberg has dedicated his career to championing civic engagement and upholding the universal values of liberty, justice, and equal opportunity for all. His leadership is characterized by a commitment to integrity and transparency and a focus on fostering a sense of community within the city.,

Mayor Nirenberg's support for the Jewish community and Israel has been unwavering. In 2017, he led a city delegation to Israel, demonstrating his commitment to strengthening ties between San Antonio and the Jewish state. He has consistently advocated for the local Jewish community, recognizing its vital contributions to the city's rich cultural tapestry.

During the challenging period of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Mayor Nirenberg, in collaboration with County Judge Nelson Wolf, played a pivotal role in guiding the city through the crisis with empathy and a steady hand. 

Mayor Nirenberg's effective leadership is reflected in his electoral success. First elected in 2017, he has been re-elected multiple times, most recently securing a fourth term in May of 2023. He and his wife, First Lady Erika Prosper, are the proud parents of their son, Jonah.The Chabad Center is honored to present Mayor Nirenberg with the 2025 Distinguished Community Service Award.
